Global Workspace Theory Originator, Bernard Baars Reads From and Discusses His New Book “On Consciousness: Science & Subjectivity” March 7, 2020 at D.G. Wills Books

Acclaimed author in psychobiology, Bernard Baars, known for developing Global Workspace Theory (GWT), will talk about consciousness and the brain at this free event hosted by D.G. Wills Books, 7461 Girard Avenue, La Jolla, CA on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 7PM to 9PM.

La Jolla, CA, February 3, 2020 – Global Workspace Theory (GWT) is the first prominent theory to be tested on how brain activity gives rise to consciousness (championed by Stanislas Dehaene, Collège de France, Paris) in World Charity Foundation’s (TWCF) $20 million historic contest. Bernard Baars will lead a stimulating discussion about his new book, “On Consciousness: Science & Subjectivity – Updated Works on Global Workspace Theory” (The Nautilus Press, Nov 2019) on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 7-9PM at D.G. Wills Books, home of the La Jolla Cultural Society at 7461 Girard Avenue, La Jolla, CA.

Baars’ collected works form a coherent effort to organize a large and growing body of scientific evidence about conscious brains. Joining Bernie will be Nobel Laureate Gerald Edelman’s son, neuroscientist Dr. David Edelman, Visiting Scholar at the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Dartmouth College, and the book’s editor, Natalie Geld, founder of MedNeuro, Inc.

“Baars was just waaaay ahead of everyone else in approaching questions concerning consciousness as scientific questions. This corpus is a stunning achievement.” Patricia Churchland, PhD, UC President’s Professor of Philosophy Emerita, UCSD, author of Conscience – The Origins of Moral Intuition (Norton, 2019).

“An indispensable addition to the library of both students and experts who study consciousness.” George A. Mashour, MD, PhD, Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, Robert B. Sweet Professor of Anesthesiology, Faculty, Neuroscience Graduate Program, University of Michigan Medicine.

“Eyebrows are no longer raised even among neuroscientists when the topic of consciousness is discussed, largely due to authors like Bernard Baars.” György Buzsáki, MD, PhD, Biggs Professor of Neuroscience, NYU School of Medicine, author of The Brain from Inside Out (OUP 2020).

Special Book Signing Event Price: $60 (Retail Price: $139). Hardcover edition: 682 Pages; 70 b&w/color images, diagrams, illustrations; ISBN: 9781732904828; The Nautilus Press (November 4, 2019).

Bernard J. Baars is an Affiliated Fellow, and former Senior Fellow in Theoretical Neurobiology at Gerald Edelman’s Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla, CA. Author of award winning books in psychobiology, Bernie is recipient of 2019 Hermann von Helmholtz Life Contribution Award by the International Neural Network Society for work in perception proven to be paradigm changing and long-lasting.
